August is the month of the Full Sturgeon Moon. In the Northern Hemisphere this was the time that the sturgeon, a large fish of the Great Lakes and other major bodies of water, were more readily caught as they gathered for spawning. The Sturgeon is known for its longevity, surviving longer than almost any other fish up to 140 years.
The sturgeon symbolise determination, perseverance, depth, knowledge and gathering – all that can make you survive and make it through any conditions be it summer, winter, spring or autumn.
It can also be known as Blueberry Moon for the ripening blueberries or Green Corn Moon.
