Learning about Letting go with the Autumn Season

Letting Go with the Autum Season

The turn of the Earth Cycle continues and we now officially enter into Autumn season. This can be a great time to take a check in on our mind set, traditionally it is viewed as the season that leads to the darkness of winter and so often this is how I hear people refer to this time..."well that was Summer, Winter will soon be here". But what about the blessings of this time of year. I love the quote by Albert Camus "Autumn is a Second Spring, where every leaf is a flower". This is truly the positive mindset we should embrace this season with. Autumn is as season of change and nature gives us a great reminder of two very important things: Letting Go and Impermanence.

Letting Go Meditation

Firstly this is a perfect time to let go of things that are holding you back or creating a burden in your life…here is a short meditation for you:

Sit in silence for a few moments

Becoming aware of your breath flowing in and out

Imagine you are a tree and hanging from your branches are all the things that are weighing you down

Now with an outbreath, just like the wind, imagine those leaves falling from your tree letting go and releasing what is no longer wanted or necessary in your life…

Then take time to embrace the lightness you feel with the release

Impermanence

Secondly it is important reminder that everything changes...this is referred to as Impermanence in the Buddhist traditions. It we accept that everything changes then we can be present and enjoy every moment of the present. Don't spend time looking back at summer and wanting the light or warmth of Summer to continue.  If we try to hold on and keep things exactly the same then we only cause ourselves pain and anguish because it is not nature to stay the same....change brings new opportunities. Autumn brings a rich abundance as the time of harvest, it brings a world of beautiful colour.

So make a conscious effort to celebrate every moment of every day for this moment will not coming again.
